What are the medical robots? Inventory of various types of medical robots

When it comes to medical robots, everyone should be familiar with them. The most famous ones are Da Vinci’s surgical robots, rehabilitation exoskeleton robots, CT machines, etc., as well as some nursing and medical automation.

1. Da Vinci Surgical Robot

Produced by Intuitive Surgical, the da Vinci surgical robot is the most successful surgical robot in the world and the most widely used medical robot. Surgery using the da Vinci surgical robot, which typically requires only a few small incisions within 2 cm in diameter, is extremely precise, which means less bleeding, faster healing and a reduced risk of infection. In 2015, the da Vinci surgical robot became an internet sensation for stitching up a grape in a narrow-mouth bottle. The da Vinci surgical robot has become the standard for robot-assisted surgery.

2. Endoscopic robot

Endoscopy is a procedure in which a small camera on a long wire is inserted into the body through a “natural opening” to look for signs of injury, foreign objects or disease. This kind of inspection is uncomfortable, but it may well be a thing of the past. Because some companies have developed slender, flexible robots, doctors can remote control these robots to the desired exact location like a remote control car. Doctors can then hold there without shaking hands and deploy tools ranging from biopsies to cauterizing wounds. Impressive is a “capsule endoscope,” where a patient simply swallows a pill-sized robot and a doctor can collect data and take pictures that can be used to diagnose the condition.

3. Exoskeleton robot

It’s nothing short of a miracle that exoskeleton robots are being used to help paralyzed people walk again. Exoskeleton robots can also be used to correct deformities, as well as to rehabilitate brain or spinal cord injuries by providing muscles with assistance in locomotion and healing of injuries. Most exoskeletons work through user input and preset movements, but with advances in neural interfaces, it’s only a matter of time before patients control exoskeletons through their minds.

4. Disinfection robot

Hospitals are not as clean as people think. People go to the hospital for treatment and may instead leave with a disease. Hospitals can become a breeding ground for some stubborn antibiotic-resistant bacteria due to the high amount of antibiotics used, so cleaning of hospital rooms is very important! The disinfection robot can automatically move to a patient room and then illuminate the empty room with high-energy ultraviolet light for a few minutes until no microorganisms survive.

5. The escort robot

There are millions of elderly, frail or intellectually disabled people in the world who are chronically lonely and lack motivation. These patients also tend to require regular check-ups by nursing staff, which is a problem in areas with nursing shortages. The companion robot solves these two problems at the same time, and really makes the life of many people better. The escort robot can also call an ambulance if a patient falls.

6. Telemedicine robots

Telemedicine robots are already playing a key role in medicine, bringing top doctors and expertise to underserved communities and remote areas. Doctors in one area can use remote robots to talk to patients and doctors in another area, sharing their knowledge and diagnostic consultations in real time, at a fraction of the cost and effort of going there in person.

7. Dispensing robots

In daily life, vending machines are already very common. In the hospital, patients usually take the printed prescriptions prescribed by the doctor to pick up the medicine, and then a special person will pick up the medicine for the patient in the pharmacy. In fact, you might as well imagine a pharmacy as a vending machine. You don’t need a special person in it, you can just have a robot dispensing medicine.
